Ice on the Loop, dust blowing on U.S. 84, snow in Raton Pass: road conditions around here can change fast. Before you head out, especially on a trip to the mountains or across state lines, check these official sources.

Winter driving tips
Bridges and overpasses freeze first. On the Loop and the Marsha Sharp, slow down well before you reach the overpass.
Can't see in blowing dust? Pull completely off the road, turn off your lights and keep your foot off the brake so drivers behind you don't follow your taillights.
Keep a winter kit in the car: a blanket, water, snacks, a phone charger, a flashlight and a scraper.
Let someone know your route on long trips, especially through rural stretches with spotty cell service.
Check before you go, not while you drive. Have a passenger look it up, or pull over first.
