Democratic U.S. Senate candidate James Talarico held a Tuesday evening campaign rally at the Fiesta Center in East Lubbock, the same day President Donald Trump appeared across town in support of Republican Ken Paxton.

The October 27 rally followed a late venue change from Texas Tech's Frazier Alumni Pavilion to the Fiesta Center at 1902 E. Fourth Street. Doors were scheduled to open at 6 p.m. for a 7 p.m. program. The gathering was associated with Talarico's “Clear Eyes, Full Hearts” tour.

At the event, Talarico emphasized the cost of housing, groceries, and health care and criticized wealthy political donors, according to on-the-ground reporting. The campaign's spokesperson claimed more than 4,000 people had signed up; the campaign did not independently verify attendance.

Talarico is challenging Paxton in the November 3 election. Early voting ends Friday, October 30. See the Chronicle's voter guide.
