Lubbock ISD scored a perfect 100 out of 100 on the Texas Education Agency's School Financial Integrity Rating System of Texas (FIRST). This is the district's 25th straight A or Superior Achievement rating, and it has earned an A every year since the system was created.
What the rating measures
The Texas Legislature established FIRST in 2001 to hold public school districts accountable for the quality of their financial management. Ratings are based on the annual financial reports districts submit to TEA for the prior fiscal year. The agency reviews each report and assigns one of four grades: A for Superior Achievement, B for Above Standard Achievement, C for Meets Standard Achievement or F for Substandard Achievement.
The system is designed to encourage districts to manage their money so that as much as possible goes directly to instruction. More information is available on TEA's FIRST page.
What district leaders said
"A score of 100 represents the highest level of achievement possible and reflects the hard work and dedication of the district's financial and business operations teams," said Dr. Dewayne Wilkins, Lubbock ISD's chief financial officer.
Superintendent Dr. Kathy Rollo credited the district's Business and Finance team. "An A is an accomplishment; a perfect 100 is exceptional," Rollo said. "It represents our commitment to being responsible stewards of taxpayer dollars and ensuring that every dollar entrusted to Lubbock ISD is managed wisely, transparently, and effectively."
Lubbock ISD serves more than 23,000 students and is the area's largest K-12 public school district.
