The Lubbock City Council canceled its Tuesday, October 27 regular meeting after determining it would lack a quorum, according to local reporting citing a city news release. President Donald Trump is scheduled to speak at the Lubbock Memorial Civic Center at 6 p.m. Tuesday.

What happened

The council convened at 8:30 a.m. for the posted meeting, as scheduled, and determined it would not have enough members present for the evening regular session, according to the Avalanche-Journal. The council then canceled the meeting.

No new meeting date had been announced as of Tuesday afternoon. Regular City Council meetings are typically held on the second and fourth Tuesdays of each month.

What was on the agenda

The city's published agenda for the October 27 meeting included consideration of a settlement agreement in Red Canyon Development, LLC v. City of Lubbock (consent agenda item 4.23) and the first reading of Ordinance No. 2026-O0052, which would set up a process for property owners to petition the city to pave an unimproved alley, with abutting owners bearing the cost (regular agenda item 5.9). Neither item was acted on Tuesday.

The Chronicle will report when the city posts a new meeting date and agenda.
