Drivers on FM 41 will face an overnight closure at US 87 on Monday, November 2, from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. Tuesday, while crews place the deck on the new bridge, the Texas Department of Transportation says. Eastbound and westbound FM 41 traffic will be detoured around the work zone.
What changes Monday night
TxDOT expects FM 41 to reopen at US 87 by 7 a.m. Tuesday, November 3. Drivers traveling FM 41 overnight should follow posted detour signs and allow extra time.
Frontage road lane reductions
Also beginning Monday, the inside lanes of both the northbound and southbound US 87 frontage roads will close in segments within the project limits, reducing traffic to one lane. Crews will build retaining walls for the new bridge, place curb and gutter and complete other concrete work.
All work depends on the weather.
About the project
The US 87 at FM 41 project is a safety improvement that rebuilds the US 87 bridge over FM 41 and rehabilitates the frontage roads from three-quarters of a mile north to three-quarters of a mile south of FM 41 in Lubbock County. The work also addresses drainage and improves the road surface. Construction began in April 2026.
TxDOT's project schedule lists later phases that include building the US 87 main lanes and turnarounds, then rehabilitating the northbound and southbound frontage roads, with additional detours anticipated into early 2027. Dates are subject to change.
