Before he entered the White House, Donald Trump was introducing the Red Raiders on national television, years before his presidential campaigns.
A little piece of Texas Tech football history buried deep in YouTube has been brought to light by former Lubbock County Republican Party Chairman Dan Isett.
Isett shared a video clip of Trump introducing the Red Raiders during their November 17, 2007, game against No. 3 Oklahoma at Jones AT&T Stadium.
Trump's appearance in the clip gives Red Raider fans a playful reason to claim he was on their side long before any presidential campaign.
The game itself was memorable. Playing before a national television audience, Coach Mike Leach's Red Raiders knocked off the Sooners 34–27.
The victory came before 55,038 fans in Lubbock and featured quarterback Graham Harrell and a Texas Tech team that delivered one of the season's biggest upsets.
Nearly 19 years later, the clip offers an unusual intersection of Texas Tech football history and presidential politics.
