Texas Tech head football coach Joey McGuire is back on the Paul “Bear” Bryant Coach of the Year Award watch list. McGuire was named Wednesday, October 21, among 28 coaches nationally following the Red Raiders' second consecutive 6–0 start.

McGuire was a finalist for the honor last season. He is one of five Big 12 coaches on the latest watch list. Texas Tech Athletics reports he has a 41–18 record through his first 59 games, the most wins by a Red Raiders head coach over that span.

Texas Tech, ranked No. 8 in the university's release, travels to Cincinnati on Saturday for an 11 a.m. Central kickoff at Nippert Stadium. The Red Raiders are seeking their first 7–0 start since 2013.
