Save Lubbock submitted two citizen petitions to the Lubbock City Secretary on Friday, October 30, targeting Flock surveillance cameras and economic development oversight.
The first petition seeks to ban Flock automated license plate readers and similar vehicle-tracking systems, terminate city contracts, remove equipment and delete stored data.
The second, called the LEDA Transparency initiative, would require public review and voter approval before the city creates or authorizes a new Type B economic development corporation.
Lubbock Police Chief Seth Herman has defended the cameras as valuable law enforcement tools. Critics have raised privacy concerns.
What's next? Organizers say each petition required 2,410 signatures. The city must verify the submissions before further action. No verified signature totals or council hearing date have been announced.
