Two Lubbock kitchens are getting some Texas-sized attention for a hometown favorite: chicken-fried steak.
A 2026 “Top 20 Texas Chicken Fried Steaks” graphic credited to Jeffrey Yarbrough & The Texas Outlaws names Cast Iron Grill and Cuevas Drive In among 20 establishments around the state. The image was forwarded to the Chronicle on Thursday with a request to share the local connection.
Cast Iron Grill: 620 19th Street, a longtime Lubbock breakfast-and-lunch destination.
Cuevas Drive In: 2013 North Ash Avenue, a neighborhood restaurant known for classic comfort food.
The organizer's public Texas Chicken Fried Steak Day guide currently displays a 2025 list, which also included Cast Iron Grill. The Chronicle has not yet independently confirmed publication details or selection criteria for the circulated 2026 graphic, so this is being reported as a shared list rather than a verified statewide competition result.
