As temperatures drop, Lubbock Fire Rescue warns residents about the dangers of carbon monoxide. Derek Delgado of Lubbock Fire Rescue spoke with EverythingLubbock about precautions after a local family was hospitalized with symptoms reportedly associated with using a gas-powered generator indoors.
Carbon monoxide is a colorless, odorless gas that can build up from generators, malfunctioning or improperly vented heating equipment, gas appliances and vehicles left running in attached garages. Fire officials recommend installing carbon monoxide detectors, testing them regularly and replacing batteries as directed.
Safety reminder: Never run a generator inside a home or garage. If you suspect carbon monoxide exposure, leave immediately and call 911.
