West Texas Top 10

Inaugural rankings preview | October 16, 2026

The Lubbock Chronicle is developing two independent regional rankings: one for 11-man football and another for six-man football. Coverage spans the Panhandle, South Plains, Permian Basin, Big Country, Concho Valley and Wichita Falls area.

11-Man Teams Under Review

Estacado (7–0): The Matadors enter Week 8 unbeaten after defeating Perryton 64–35 on October 9. They host Borger on Friday, October 16.

Odessa Permian (7–0): The Panthers beat Midland Lee 42–10 on October 9 and host Odessa High on October 16.

Other regional contenders: Amarillo High, Amarillo Palo Duro, Randall, Abilene High and other leading programs are being evaluated against comparable records and opponents. This is a watch list, not a ranking.

Six-Man Top 5

We will publish our six-man ranking separately after verifying team records, strength of schedule and recent results. No placements are announced yet.

How we rank: Verified wins and losses, strength of schedule, quality victories, head-to-head performance and recent form. The Chronicle independently determines the order; we don't copy other outlets' rankings.

Editorial status: preview only. The inaugural numbered Top 10 lists are not yet final.

Sources for factual results include MaxPreps, schools and regional sports reporting.
