1. Bridge strike disrupts I-27 frontage-road traffic at South Loop 289
A semi-truck struck the eastbound South Loop 289 frontage-road bridge over the northbound I-27 frontage road Tuesday evening. The northbound I-27 frontage road at South Loop 289 and the eastbound Loop 289 frontage road at I-27 were closed after the strike, while the main lanes of I-27 and Loop 289 remained open. Drivers using the interchange should expect detours until transportation officials complete inspections and reopen the affected frontage roads.

2. Loop 88 changes take effect today at Avenues U and P
Drivers in south Lubbock will see a new traffic pattern today as Avenues U and P within the Loop 88 Phase 3C project are converted to all-way stop intersections, weather permitting. TxDOT also plans to return the segment between the two avenues to two-way traffic and reopen the Avenue U crossover. Motorists should watch for construction equipment, slower traffic and possible delays through the work zone.

3. Lubbock County launches free property-fraud alerts
Lubbock County residents can now sign up for Fraud Notify, a free County Clerk service that sends an email when a document containing a registered name is recorded. The system covers records such as deeds, deeds of trust, liens and notices and is intended as an early-warning tool; it does not prevent fraud or guarantee detection. Residents who receive an alert can review the document through the clerk's office.

4. No. 9 Texas Tech enters open week at 5-0
Texas Tech is ranked No. 9 in the U.S. LBM Coaches Poll and No. 11 in the AP poll after its 29-7 win at Colorado. The Red Raiders are 5-0 and idle this weekend before returning home for the Oct. 17 Homecoming game against Arizona State. Kickoff is set for 2:30 p.m. at Galaxy Stadium on FOX.

5. Week 7 high-school football starts Thursday
Two Lubbock-area varsity games are set for Thursday night: Monterey travels to Amarillo High and Palo Duro visits Coronado, both at 7 p.m. Friday's slate includes Abilene High at Frenship Memorial, Tascosa at Lubbock High, Frenship at Caprock, Lubbock-Cooper at Abilene Cooper, Estacado at Perryton and Lubbock-Cooper Liberty at Borger.
