Lubbock native and Texas Tech alumna Amanda Shires will headline the university's 68th annual Carol of Lights on Sunday, Dec. 6.
The free event is at the Science Quadrangle, just west of Memorial Circle. Tickets are not required. A carillon concert begins at 6:30 p.m., followed by the Carol of Lights at 7 p.m.
Texas Tech describes Shires as a Grammy Award-winning singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist. She began playing fiddle with the Texas Playboys at 15, founded The Highwomen and won a 2018 Grammy for Best Americana Album with Jason Isbell and the 400 Unit.
What to expect
The program features the Texas Tech University Combined Choirs, Trombone Choir, Masked Rider, High Riders and Saddle Tramps. More than 30,000 lights are switched on during the ceremony, and a fireworks display follows.
